North Carolina Signature Magazine's Winning Secret!
November/December 2008
My favorite new treasure in Asheboro is Circa Gallery in the new Mill Building beside the downtown farmer's market. The exposed brick walls and wooden ceiling make a warm, inviting setting for the vibrant collection. Owners Amy Keith Barney and Mandy Sloan have a fresh eye for choosing and displaying works by local and other North Carolina artists including paintings, photography, handmade jewelry and more. For a triple treat, I visit on Thursday morning when all the business hours align so that I can pick up some of Randolph County's bounty at the farmer's market (recent finds: blackberries, peaches and heirloom tomatoes), browse for new surprises at the gallery, and then enjoy a bowl of roasted tomato crab bisque and homemade potato chips at Timothy's Fine Dining next door.
